Results - Before and After
Treatment results will vary from person to person. Once a hair follicle has been successfully treated, that hair follicle can never produce a hair again. As approximately 20% of the active hair follicles are in their anagen stage at a time, it is necessary to have several treatments. On average, people require 5-8 treatments. As we go through hormonal changes in our lives, other follicles may become active and therefore it may be necessary to have a maintenance treatment perhaps once a year.
The majority of clients are so thrilled with their results that they go on to have further treatment on other areas of the body. Intense Pulsed Light is proving the better alternative to reduce hair growth in minimal sessions with least discomfort.
What is Intense Pulsed Light?
Intense Pulsed Light is a similar but newer technology to laser, and is used for hair removal as well as other treatments. It is proving very effective and is fast becoming more popular than laser. Intense Pulsed Light is a system that produces a very bright pulse of broad spectrum light. The machine we use at The Pureskin Clinic produces wave lengths of 400nm to 800nm. These wavelengths are attracted to melanin (pigmentation in the hair). When the light is absorbed by the melanin, heat is produced which disables the hair follicle. back to topHow is the Procedure Preformed?
The area to be treated is marked out then the hair is removed to the surface. If the hair was present on the surface of the skin, the light would be attracted to the surface hair which would burn which could in turn burn the skin. A clear aquasonic gel is then applied to the skin.Once the area is prepared, the hand piece is held firmly against the skin and a pulse of light is emitted. The hand piece is moved across the area treating 1cm x 5cm areas per pulse. The light travels through the skin and is absorbed into the shaft of the hair which contains the pigment melanin. Heat is produced in the hair and then radiates out into the surrounding follicle tissue, disabling the follicle cells. These cells normally produce new hair but are unable to after treatment.
The dead hair shaft will gradually shed out of the follicle, this may take up to 3 weeks.
back to topCan I have Intense Pulse Light Hair Reduction?
>The most ideal person for this treatment has dark hair and fair skin, however we can treat other skin and hair types. It is necessary to stay out of the sun for a few days after treatment. Dark or very tanned skin may run the risk of pigmentation (skin colour) changes following the treatment. Come in an have a FREE consultation to determine whether you are a good candidate for the treatment. back to topHow many treatments will I need?
The Intense Pulse Light works by disabling hairs that are in their active (anagen) growth cycle at the time of treatment. Since hairs will enter their growth cycles at different times, a series of treatments will be necessary. Generally it will take 5-8 treatments, depending on where the treatment is being performed. Treatments are performed 4-6 weeks apart. back to topAre there any side effects?
After the treatment you can possibly expect a little redness in the area. This will usually last a couple of hours. You need to use an SPF30 moisturiser after treatment. After 2 -3 weeks you will experience the hair falling out in the area that was treated. back to topDoes it hurt?
Some people describe the sensation of the Intense Pulse Light pulses as a ping from a rubber band on the skin's surface, usually no more painful than plucking a few hairs. Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others. Most people have no problems with the procedure. back to topWhich areas of the body can be treated?
Any part of the body can be treated with the exception of areas in close proximity with the eyes, inner ears, and nose. We can treat between the eyebrows. back to topback to top
